Encouragement for your walk with God

“For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.” -John 3:34

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is power.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

The Holy Spirit is Comforter.

Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter (Counselor), that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16, KJV).

Jesus promised another Comforter to be with the disciples, giving them power, comfort, and counsel, because soon Jesus would return to the Father, after his death and resurrection.  Jesus knew they would need another Advocate to plead their case when they encountered persecutions, and to be on their side when even facing death for the gospel of Christ.  For they were to go into all the world and preach the good news, making “disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…” (Matthew 28:19-20).  The Great Commission was the greatest mission of all time.  It wasn’t going to be easy, but Jesus promised He would be with them when He said, “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (v. 20).

The Blue Letter Bible says the Holy Spirit was “destined to take the place of Christ with the apostles (after his ascension to the Father)…lead them to a deeper knowledge of the gospel truth, and give them divine strength needed to enable them to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine kingdom” (https://www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/g3875/kjv/tr/0-1/).

Jesus loved the disciples, as well as the Father, and was not going to leave them alone.  “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, who the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.   Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:26-27).

Ask And Receive

Just as the disciples were not left alone, we too are not alone and don’t have to be afraid.  The same Holy Spirit that the disciples had access to, is the same Holy Spirit we can be baptized with today.  For we are the dwelling place, the temple of the Holy Spirit.  How humbling and how incredibly amazing that God would choose to indwell in us, so that we can spread the gospel – making disciples of all nations.  This Holy Spirit (fire) power is available now and the Father is simply waiting for us to ask Him.

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13).

John the Baptist said, “I baptize you with water for repentance.  But after me will come one (Jesus) who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry.  He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire” (Matthew 3:11).

How desperate are you for the Lord?  Do you cry out to Him with expectation?  Are you longing for more of His presence and the Holy Spirit?  Remember, God gives the Holy Spirit without limit or measure (John 3:34).  He pours out freely and abundantly, just like He pours out His love.  And all we need to do is ask and receive.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened”(Matthew 7:7-8).

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”
-Acts 2:1-4

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.  Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
-Joel 2:28-29

“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.”
-Matthew 4:16
