Encouragement for your walk with God

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” -Ezekiel 36:26

A Heart Of Stone And Flesh

There are two types of hearts according to the prophet Ezekiel:  a heart of stone and a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 11:18-21 & Ezekiel 36:24-29).  A heart of stone is hard, dirty and full of idolatry; it represents a life that is spiritually dead.  A person with a heart of stone does what they want to do, instead of wanting to please God.

However, a heart of flesh is the complete opposite, because it is soft, clean and full of love and adoration towards God; it represents a life that is spiritually alive.  A person with a heart of flesh desires to do the will of God and has no idols.  They long to please the Lord through obedience and through worshiping him and him alone.

First Love

What we love and give our affection towards is what we worship and adore.  Just like the Israelites were prophesied, in Ezekiel 11:16-17, to be scattered among the nations (because of their sin and idolatry) and then return to their homeland (because of God’s loving kindness and divine plan), God is calling us to return home to our first love.  God is calling us to come back to Jesus.

And just as God has been settling the Jews back in their homeland in Israel, (fulfilled through immigration waves as stated by Dr. Michael Rydelnik – https://www.chosenpeople.com/is-the-modern-state-of-israel-2/) the Lord wants to settle us with an undivided (new) heart and a new spirit.

“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19).

Not only can we have a new heart and a new spirit through Jesus, we can be cleansed from our sin.  “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols” (Ezekiel 36:25).  We can be made new and clean through the incredible love and power of Jesus Christ!  Let’s throw off our idols of sin and return home to Jesus, our first love!

“If we confess our sin, he (Jesus) is faithful and just, to forgive us our sin, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  -1 John 1:9

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”  -Psalm 51:10

“So he got up and went to his father.  But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.  The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.  Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate.  For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”  -Luke 15:20-24
