Encouragement for your walk with God

“…No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has concevied what God has prepared for those who love him- but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit…”-1 Corinthians 2:9-10

A Great Adventure

Have you ever been on a great adventure?  Typically we think of an adventure as a fun journey to an exciting destination.  One of my favorite adventures was a time I went on a kayaking trip to a remote hiking trail on a lake.  After kayaking for an hour, I made it to the trailhead, where I parked my boat and began journeying through the woods.  I hiked through thorny bushes, under shaded trees and over small streams to a large double waterfall.  It was a great adventure because of the beautiful nature and mysterious trail- along the way I honestly got a little lost!  However, I eventually found the right trail, making it to the incredible waterfall.  Finding the waterfall was like finding a treasure in the woods; it did not disappoint at all!

Fix Our Eyes

My kayaking-hiking adventure reminds me of this journey we call life.  We’re sailing along on a big, vast body of water-through difficult and unrelenting waves- guided by the light of the beautiful and bright sun, longing, hoping to soon reach the other side.  Adventure With The Lord is exactly that, a picture of our journey and how it can be.

The boat represents us (our bodily vessel) and the sail on fire is the Holy Spirit.  When we are filled with His Spirit and our lives are set ablaze, we can sail freely on the troubled seas, no matter the size of the waves.  God is with us and can do the impossible in our personal lives and through our lives to others.  Not only will He guide us and make our paths straight, He will light our way.  He is the ultimate source and the sun at our right hand.  God is the Son and by His Spirit and light, our path-the plan He has for us-is revealed.  When we look to Jesus, we have nothing to fear, because He is our ultimate goal, and our ultimate prize!

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2).

Pure In Heart

Sometimes along our sailing adventure we run into some clouds that try to block our sight.  How can we see God?  How can we walk (sail) by faith?

Matthew 5:8 reminds us, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”  By having pure hearts we can see God and fix our eyes on Jesus.  This journey of life is a continual renewal of our bodies, minds and spirits to become more and more pure and holy like our Lord.  And it’s Jesus who washes us clean.  We just need to confess our sins.

When we “confess our sins, he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).  As the bride of Christ, Jesus is purifying us more and more and we can also make ourselves ready for that glorious day by being genuine and obedient unto Him in our daily lives.  Let’s get ready for heaven, instead of just waiting for heaven to get ready for us.

Since Jesus is already preparing a place for us…  “In my Father’s house are many rooms…I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2)…why not prepare a place for Him?  That place is our vessel (boat); in other words our body (temple of the Holy Spirit).  We are the body of Christ and the bride of Christ.  We can prepare for heaven by looking to Him and seeking to please Him in our words and deeds.  When we follow Jesus and “walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

Revelation 19:7-8 says, “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!  For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.  Fine linen, bright and clean, was give her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)

Let’s make ourselves ready as the bride of Christ by obeying the Lord through righteous living and by trusting in Jesus on this great adventure and journey of life.  For He is the one who makes us clean and pure.  Jesus is the one who is with us on this adventure and will be with us in the even greater adventure of heaven!  Through it all, let’s look to Jesus!
