Encouragement for your walk with God
“God’s power is unlimited. He needs no teachers to guide or correct him.”
-Job 36:22-23
The Box
Sometimes we try to put God in a box. Sometimes we think we understand who God is and try to shape him into what we want. We try to place him into our own worldview, but we forget that he is not of this world. We try to box him in.
But God can’t be confined.
Jesus actually breaks out of the box. Jesus is not limited by our lack of faith. Rather, he sometimes surprises us with a miraculous work.
Before I started the The Resurrection And The Life paintings, I had already painted a canvas with a brown box and red cross on it in the month of November, 2025. In fact, I painted several boxes falling from heaven, inspired from James 1:17, which says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Two weeks after that painting in December, I saw an opened brown box in my driveway when I got home. It was one that had fallen out of a storage unit nearby but reminded me of my painting.
As I prepared for another painting in February, I had the idea to paint two canvases with a closed white box on one canvas and an opened white box folding out on the other canvas to reveal a cross. It was a really fun project and God really blew me away when in April, just two months later, I was riding with my friend to Asheville.
As my friend drove his car around a bend on the highway, we suddenly saw a brown unopened box in the middle of our lane! My friend had no where to turn and ran right over it! We quickly pulled to the side of the road. We were safe. I looked under the car and there was the box stuck between the road and undercarriage of his car. I dragged the box from under the car and it was busted open. Inside were what looked like miscellaneous car parts, but the box must have fallen off a vehicle. We ran over the box right in the middle of the lane and God reminded me of the paintings I had done two months prior. After removing the box, we continued on our journey safe and sound from any boxes in the road.
This strange, yet incredible story opened up an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with my friend and how I had previously completed two paintings about a box. I showed him the artwork and explained the meaning behind it. He was amazed and said it was “magical.” I shared that it was the Holy Spirit and the power of God speaking.
The Resurrection And The Life
“God’s power is unlimited. He needs no teachers to guide or correct him” (Job 36:22-23). The LORD has no lack, no limit…with God all things are possible.
The story of Lazarus when Jesus raises him from the dead is a remarkable one where Jesus says to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Martha’s response is, “Yes Lord…I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”(John 11:25-27).
Martha’s proclamation of faith is very encouraging about Jesus but then Jesus does something she’s not expecting. Jesus raises her brother Lazarus from the dead before the resurrection at the last day! Jesus does the impossible and surprises Martha and her sister, Mary, with a miraculous work. Nothing is impossible for the Resurrection and the Life!
This miracle was prophetic of the death and resurrection Jesus would later have and it was after this resurrection that Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the Jews. The chief priests and the Pharisees plotted the death of Jesus, because they felt their nation was threatened by this miracle worker who claimed to be one with the Father (God) and called himself The Resurrection And The Life.
It was after these brood of vipers successfully killed Jesus, that “…God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him” (Acts 2:24).
Death could not hold back Jesus. He could not be put in a box. He could not be concealed in a grave. Jesus broke out of the box and out of the grave! The Resurrection and the Life came back because all things are possible with God!
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die…” (John 11:25).
The same resurrection power is living in us who believe. The same life is living in all who confess Jesus as Lord and Savior! Praise God for the spiritual resurrection and life He has given us today on this earth and the resurrection and new life (body) we will receive one day at Jesus’ returning!
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” – Philippians 3:20-21
